Mom's 3 days dead; Dad's mistress moved in. 'Burn her bed.' "She ripped Mom's photo: 'KNEEL. I'm your mother now.'" - 4

The night before the conference, Eric called again.

"Tiffany offered me fifty thousand. Cash. If I disappear before your show."

"And?"

"I recorded the call. She admitted to the prescription alterations during the negotiation."

I closed my eyes.

"Send it to my lawyer."

"Already did."

At 7 AM I stood in the convention center.

Hall C.

Medical Innovation Conference.

Tiffany's keynote was scheduled for 10.

The title printed in gold on the program.

"Integrity in Modern Medicine."

I already knew the AV was ready from last night.

Eric was backstage, waiting.

The auditorium filled.

Hundreds of attendees.

White coats.

Industry leaders.

Press cameras in the back.

Dad sat in the front row.

He looked thin.

His suit hung loose.

Tiffany took the stage.

Her speech dripped with false humility.

"As a healthcare provider, ethics come first. Patient welfare above all."

Applause rippled through the room.

I stood during the Q&A period.

"Dr. Tiffany."

My voice carried to the back.

"Could you explain your ex-husband's testimony about your revoked medical license?"

Silence crushed the room.

"I don't know what you're—"

Eric walked out from behind the curtain.

He climbed the stage steps.

The projector screen flickered.

Original pharmacy logs.

Altered hospital records.

Side by side.

Dates matched.

Dosages multiplied by three.

"This woman never held a valid medical license."

Eric's voice was steady.

"She coerced me into altering patient records. Including records for Eleanor Chen. Who died three days after the dosage was tripled."

The hall erupted.

Cameras flashed.

The hospital director stood.

His face red.

"This institution severs all ties with Ms. Tiffany immediately. Security, remove her. And contact law enforcement."

He pulled out his own phone. Dialed directly.

Tiffany lunged toward Eric.

"You lying bastard!"

Two officers entered from the side door.

They intercepted her.

Handcuffs clicked.

"You're under arrest for medical fraud. Identity fraud. And pending investigation into patient harm."

She screamed as they led her out.

Dad rushed the stage.

Grabbed the microphone.

His face in every camera.

"I had no idea. She deceived me completely. I'm annulling the marriage."

"You knew everything."

Tiffany's shriek echoed from the hallway.

"You told me to change the medications. You signed the transfer orders. You coward!"

She broke free from one officer.

Charged back.

Her nails raked toward his face.

Officers tackled her.

Dragged her out again.

Dad stood frozen.

Cameras recorded it all.

He was released that afternoon due to insufficient evidence for immediate arrest.

But his passport was confiscated.

Travel restricted.

I uploaded the scuffle footage to the press server.

Every news outlet had it within the hour.

The next press conference I stood beside my lawyer.

Evidence packets distributed to every reporter.

Eric's testimony.

The pharmacy logs.

The financial transfers.

A detective approached me afterward.

"We're opening a homicide investigation. Your mother's case is now criminal."

I handed him the pendant.

"This contains a recording she made before death. I haven't viewed it. I want it entered directly into evidence."

He bagged it.

Signed the chain of custody form.

Days passed.

The house felt hollow.

But I kept pushing.

My lawyer filed a motion for a worldwide asset freeze.

We needed to prevent any assets from being hidden.

The judge granted it.

All offshore accounts linked to Jon and Tiffany were frozen.

Meanwhile, I noticed suspicious activity in Jon's accounts.

Attempts to transfer funds to shell companies abroad.

I alerted my lawyer.

He filed for an emergency freeze on those specific accounts.

The court approved it within hours.

Grandmother arrived one afternoon with Martha.

She pressed new bank statements into my hand.

"Joint accounts. Tiffany and your father. More transactions than we knew about."

Martha had her phone ready.

"I've contacted the prosecutor's office. The forensic pathologist will testify about the toxicology results."

Grandmother hugged me.

"Take out your mother's pendant. It holds her spirit."

I touched the locket around my neck.

"I never took it off."

I finally inserted a copy of the SD card into my laptop.

Hands steady.

Mom's face filled the screen.

She was thin.

Pale.

Propped on pillows.

But her voice remained clear.

"My name is Eleanor Chen. If you're watching this, I'm gone. My husband Jon and his mistress Tiffany poisoned me. They changed my medication. I confronted Jon yesterday. He said I was imagining things. But I saw the labels. I'm recording this as my final witness. Don't let them walk free."

She took a shaky breath.

"Connie. My baby. I'm so sorry. I love you. Make them answer for what they did. Not with anger. With truth."

The video ended.

I sat motionless.

The tears came without sound.

I closed the laptop and called my lawyer.

"The secret will. Use it to file for full repossession of the house. I want the judge to sign a seizure order."

The next day, the judge signed.

Court officers went to the house and placed seals on all the doors.

Jon and Tiffany could not enter or remove anything.

Their assets were fully locked down.

Two days later an officer called.

"We have warrants. Both of them. Full arrests scheduled at 6 AM tomorrow."

The night before the arrest, my phone buzzed.

Unknown number.

I answered.

It was Jon.

"You think you can put your father in prison? When I get out, I'll destroy you."

I kept my voice cold.

"Mom is watching from heaven. Enjoy your cell."

I hung up before he could respond.

I watched from my rental car.

Pre-dawn gray.

The hotel side entrance.

Dad's hideout.

Officers in tactical gear moved through the service door.

Minutes passed.

A window slid open on the third floor.

Dad's leg swung over the sill.

He crawled onto the fire escape.

Then the beam of a flashlight hit him from above.

"On the ground. Now."

He scrambled.

His foot slipped.

Officers swarmed the landing.

They pinned him against the railing.

"Hands behind your back."

I watched his face go slack.

His arms wrenched backward.

Cuffs ratcheted.

They walked him down.

Shoved him into a cruiser.

He looked out the window.

Our eyes met for three seconds.

Then the car pulled away.
